The objectives of this study were to survey regular exercise behavior and successful aging in middle- and old-age people, and the correlation between the two factors. This study was conducted using the survey method. The research targets were middle- and old-age people (including the elderly) in the Chiayi region. We selected 35 units as research bases from Active Aging Learning Centers, Elderly Colleges, and Community Caring Centers in the Chiayi region using stratified purposive sampling. A regular exercise and successful aging questionnaire was used to collect data from the participants. A pretest was conducted with 61 participants, and the formal test was conducted with 630 participants. The research findings are summarized into the following points: 1. The patterns of regular exercise in middle- and old-age people differ for each person. Middle- and old-age people typically adjust their exercise intensity and frequency according to their physical condition. 2. Middle- and old-age people have an adequate understanding and ability to maintain their mental function and prevent disease. Additionally, through social interaction and learning, they can develop spiritually and learn to cope with the psychological impact of aging. 3. Exercise intensity does not differ among middle- and old-age people because of varying social backgrounds. Additionally, successful aging and habits of regular exercise do not differ between sexes. 4. Regular exercise and successful aging have a minimal correlation; however, the exercise patterns of middle- and old-age people with a superior performance of successful aging showed a consistent trend. We recommend relevant units promote the correlation between exercise and successful aging to encourage middle- and old-age people and people preparing to retire to form regular exercise habits. Additionally, relevant units should design exercise programs appropriate for middle- and old-age people and cultivate seeded teachers in this field. In addition to standard walking and brisk walking, we recommend middle- and old-age people participate in exercise that increases their balance and physical coordination. The results of this study show that successful aging and regular exercise have a minimal correlation. However, numerous previous studies have emphasized the relationship between regular exercise and physical health. Therefore, additional studies involving in-depth investigations of the three major dimensions of regular exercise, successful aging, and physical health should be conducted in the future.
