摘要

基本上資料科學在產業上係一利用正確資料（訊）及深入分析以形成較佳產業運作成果之學門，藉由產業相關資料之分析與處理結果，提供領導者作出較佳判斷或擬定創新價值機會，或甚至透過創新產品與服務來滿足市場喜新厭舊的需求、創造產業的源源利潤。換言之，據此以建立快速獲取正確的資料（訊）來源以分析、評估關鍵表現與績效指標，進而建構成功的成長策略之能力。鉅量資料就是那整理分析的源頭，資料科學則是藉以依循以達到成功境界的道路。當然，中間過程必然橫阻有待被調整、關於成功與否、以及運作上等諸般風險，等著一一被克服、渡過。本文旨在簡介鉅量資料並倡議其在農業生產上的多元應用層面、開發其衍生價值，希望藉以拋磚引玉獲得更多專家的迴響，帶動農業從業人員重視此一被忽略的應用領域，給未來的農業科技與產業發展帶來更多的新思維、前瞻策略和創新果實。

Data science in industry/business is the discipline about having the right data/ information and insight to create better industry/business outcomes. With the results yielded from industry/business analytics, leaders know what decision to make, where to find the new revenue opportunities, and which product(s) or service offerings are most likely to meet the market requirement or to bring about stream of profit industries. In other words, it means the ability to quickly access the correct data sources to evaluate key performance/core processes and outcome indicators in building successful growth strategies. Before reaching field goals and becoming realities, some regulatory, reputational, and operational risks may be recognized along the way. This paper is to introduce 'What is Big Data' and it multiple applications and valuable perspectives in agricultural production. Hopefully, it would gain more experts echo as well as generate new thinking, forward-looking strategies and innovative fruit for agricultural R&D and industrial development in the days to come.
