The patient was a 69 year-old female and diagnosed with extrahepatic biliary cholangiocarcinoma (cholangiocarcinoma). She has suffering from bilateral subcostal dull pain, clay stool and tea color urine for half year. She was recommended to receive tumor excision with chemotherapy and radial therapy. However, this suggestion was refused and the patient came to our hospital seeking help. The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) diagnosis was liver dysfunction, spleen deficiency and improper diet. We used the principle of enrichment of liver and spleen function to solve the obstruction of biliary tract. After six months of treatment, flank pain with chest tightness were significantly improved, additionally, clay stool and tea color urine disappeared. Furthermore, the operation of excision tumor was performed and the patient had continued follow up in our hospital with good condition.
