The National Museum of Taiwanese Literature is the first national museum of literature in Taiwan. Apart from carrying out the functions of collection, preservation and research, the Museum makes use of exhibitions, events and educational programs to bring literature into the lives of Taiwan’s people and to promote cultural development. The building originally served as the Tainan District Hall during the Japanese colonial period (1895-1945). Exhibition planning and design concepts were used to transform it into the National Museum of Taiwanese Literature. The abundant content possessed by the Museum can be accredited to the multi-memorial context of Taiwanese literature. The exhibitions contained within this historical building encourage visitors to develop new perspectives. "The Development of Taiwanese Literature" Exhibition required two years of planning, with the involvement of experts from the fields of literature, history and architecture. It ingeniously applies extensions of literary and spatial imagination and under the interactions of literary and image interpretations it vividly presents the theme of "new life from old buildings". Passing through time and space, this exhibition writes the history of literature and recalls memories, as well as extends the representation and interpretation of meaning.
