There are more and more reports investigating the clinical use of high flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy in respiratory failure. In comparison with noninvasive positive-pressure ventilation, relevant reports showed high flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy resulted in better life quality, comfort, tolerance and a not inferior therapeutic effect. People received palliative care tend to ask for non-invasive therapies. High flow nasal cannula oxygen in essence is a non-invasive and effective therapy, which might be an alternative option for patients with respiratory failure and refused intubation.
