孩童的齒列弓隨成長發育逐漸發生變化,Moorrees、Moyers、兼松等人研究乳齒齒列弓的變化情形,認為觀察乳齒齒列弓的成長發育可提供將來恒牙萌出與排列是否良好之參考,並能預測未來孩童齒列弓成長及發育情形。由高雄市某幼稚園中班檢查229名孩童,選取其中無先天異常、無齲齒、無咬合不正者,年齡5±0.5歲,男女各40名,作口內、口外照相攝影,並取原始牙齒模型,採用Moorrees的方法,以雙尖游標尺及特殊工具作上下齒列弓大小,其相互間關係的測量結果顯示,男童齒列弓的幅徑、長徑較女童為大,且垂直深咬較小。男女童乳齒齒間空隙存在無顯著差異。然靈長空隙的佔有率男童較高。除齒列弓長徑外,受檢男女童的齒列弓幅徑、長徑均大於北美白人孩童且受檢者垂直深咬均較小。除齒列弓犬齒幅徑外,受檢孩童的齒列弓幅徑、長徑均大於日本千葉縣市川市孩童,且受檢孩童垂直深咬均較大,但小平重疊卻較小。

Moorrees, Moyers, and Kanematsu demonstrated that the dental arches of children change with growth and development. They suggested that the recording of this pattern might provide a picture of the eruption and arrangement of permanent teeth, as well as provide a prediction of the future development of the dental arch. A survey of 229 nursery school age children was conducted in Kaohsiung City. Subjects selected were those with no congenital malformations, no caries, and no malocclusions. Forty boys and 40 girls were examined within the mean age of 5±0.5 years. After taking both intra- and extra-oral photographs, study casts of both arches were obtained. The dimensions and relations of upper and lower arch were measured with the vernier in combination with special devices by Morrees' method. Results demonstrated that the length and width of the dental arch of the boys were greater than those of the girls, also the overbite was smaller. Although the incidence of the primate space was slightly higher for boys, there was no difference in the existence of the interdental space of deciduous teeth between two sexes. As compare with previous investigations for other population, the arch width and length of the present investigation was greater than that found in Itsigawa City in Japan. In this study a greater overbite and smaller overjet were noted. The arch width and perimeter of both sexes, except for the arch length, were greater than those of the White children in North America.
