During the light fishing operation in the coastal waters of northern Taiwan, the presenceof mackerel(prey)and hairtail(predator)affected the squid shoal which increased the rangesof its vertical distribution and also shortened the cyclic frequency of its aggregation anddispersion toward light sources. It indicated that the cyclic path and swimming speed ofsquid(phototactic behaviour)were heavily effected by the presence of prey and predatorin the illumination zone.Furthermore, the shoal density of squid was also effected.Inconclusion, the luring effects should include the influence by the interaction of fish speciesexcept the phototaxic instinct of squid in the illumination zone.
