The purpose of this study is to compare the weatherability of coatings applied on wood surface. Commercial used coatings including two aromatic clear PU, two aliphatic clear PU, red PU, gray PU, and two kinds of light stabilizers added to each coating were examined in this study. After exposure to the outdoors for one year, film properties including color difference, brightness retention and gloss were evaluated. The experimental results revealed that severe deterioration was observed on the specimens exposed directly to the outdoors than those exposed behind the window glass. The best improvement of weatherability for film properties was obtained by adding two kinds of light stabilizers together in all PU coatings. Among the six PU coatings investigated, the gray one whether light stabilizer added or not was proved to obtain the best weatherability for protecting Wood to against weathering.
