王懋竑《朱子年譜》探賾與朱學宗旨之辯

An Exploration of Wang Mao-Hong's The Chronicle of Zhuzi and the Disputation on Zhuzi's Philosophy

摘要


王懋竑的《朱子年譜》堪為考證與研究朱熹生平事蹟的代表作,然該書中對於朱熹確立學問觀點的論斷卻大異於當前學界的研究成果,亦即稱「中和新說」為未定之論,故本文以此為研究之出發點展開探討。首先討論其立論之原委,發現《年譜》之論應是針對朱澤澐《朱子聖學考略》一書而發,蓋朱氏此作強調當以己丑年(四十歲)的中和新說之悟為朱熹的學問核心,並依之創發個人獨特的朱子學詮釋觀點-「主靜」說。於是,王懋竑乃特立「主敬」說與之辯駁,堅稱朱熹於當時猶多「未定之論」,須遲至隔年(庚寅年,四十一歲)拈出「涵養須用敬,進學則在致知」二語,始為朱熹終身守之不易的學問宗旨。又王氏編撰《朱子年譜》言:「朱陸異同是立譜大關鍵」,故本文繼之考察明代中葉以來「朱陸異同論」的發展脈絡,得知自王陽明《朱子晚年定論》風行後,以文獻編年考證的方式,檢核朱熹學思歷程的演變,探討何為晚年究竟之定說,成為學者們回應「朱陸異同」問題的基本思考模式,例如魏校、高攀龍、秦雲爽、陸隴其、童能靈等人皆有相關的論述或著作,而朱澤澐與王懋竑兩人的研究成果可說是此一學術思潮的重要結晶。故本文之作,一方面針對王懋竑的《朱子年譜》進行義理探源的工作,一方面則以朱熹學思歷程為考察線索,梳理「朱陸異同論」這一學術公案的發展脈絡,進而呈現朱子學詮釋的多樣面貌。

This article emphasizes the course of academic development of "Zhu-Lu itong lun" from the mid-Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, when Wang Mao-Hong completed The Chronicle of Zhuzi. During this period, scholars discovered that relying on textual research was the only correct method to discuss the development of Zhu Xi's doctrines. Based on this method, Wei Xiao, Kao Pan-Long, Qin Yun-Shuang, Lu Long-Qi, Tong Neng-Ling and Zhu Ze-Yun all put up different points. Among those, Zhu Ze-Yun's points brought about arguments from Wang Mao- Hong that were written in The Chronicle of Zhuzi. Therefore, exploring the course of academic development and the compiling of Zhu Xi's doctrines are meaningful for the discussion of "Zhu-Lu itong lun."
