A Rare Case of Neck Lymphatic Filariasis

Lymphatic filariasis is responsible for most acquired lymphedema cases in tropical countries. The majority of filariasis cases are caused by Wuchereria bancrofti. Presentation of filariasis in limbs is common; however, microfilariae rarely cause enlarged lymph nodes of the head-neck region. We present a 59-year-old woman with a hard lymph node in the left level I region. She had no other significant lymph node enlargement. The pathology report from an excision biopsy showed marked granulomatous inflammation with degenerate microfilariae. The patient received oral ivermectin as therapy. No other lymph node enlargement was noted in regular follow-up.
