全球性的石油產業和車輛製造業都必須持續不斷的面對高成本費用、嚴謹的立法規範及環保意識的能源要求,今天當我們關注世界新能源及環境的發展,未來汽車工業在能量供應上的發展方式,將減少對石油的依賴,所以綠色能源的發展已經成為這個世紀刻不容緩的研究課題,而高性能的電動車及充電技術的發展,更被世界各國視為車輛技術與能源發展競技的主流,在先進國家主導下的全球性電動車發展,包括電池電動車和混合動力車,似乎已經為都會交通的節能化提供一個有效的節能方案。本文將探討先進電動車技術及溫室排放的關係,不同的電動車類型關鍵技術對能源效益的影響,電動車及充電技術未來的發展趨勢與困境,從電動車動力系統及電池的關鍵材料,包括高功率正極材料、快速充電負極材料、低價高安全動力鋰電池、隔離膜、電解液等技術發展,電動車產業未來的發展潛力非常高,綠色能源產業在不久將主導運輸的大型企業,成為強化都會交通及節能減碳重要成效。

Global petroleum and automotive industry are facing higher energy cost, tight legislation pressure, and increasing environmental awareness to meet the world's demand for energy sustainability. As we look at the global energy and environment pictures today, the auto industry no longer relies on almost exclusively on oil to supply the world's future automotive energy requirements. Using the advanced propulsion systems and green environmental solutions, we can offer a broad range of clean and efficient vehicles, powered by different sources of new energy, to best meet the future consumer needs all round the world. Beyond current improvements to conventional gasoline or diesel engines, huge environmental opportunities can reduce greenhouse gas emission, and oil demand from imports. These new challenges will promote future development of alternative electrical propulsion systems and increased diversity of new energy sources.This paper will cover the advanced propulsion technologies and future environmental opportunities including the major issues of greenhouse emissions, next generation hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV). We have investigated the well-to-wheel energy efficiency and their total greenhouse emission of the above electrical propulsion systems. An overview of advanced lithium-ion batteries and different levels of electrical charging systems will be provided with more feasible technology solutions for greenhouse emission reduction and energy diversity. This overview paper will also address the rationale for both HEV and FCEV technologies, and demonstrate the technical barriers for developing key components for next generation automobiles. In addition, the converging issues of energy sustainability and environmental solutions will be discussed in details. Advanced electrical propulsion system and their material development have a very high potential for future global market. Green energy industry will be the major industry for leading green transportation in the near future.
