The Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (TEOSQ, Duda, 1989;Chi,in press) was designed to assess individual difference sin the proneness for task and ego involvement in athletic settings. The purpose of this study was to test the construct validity of the measurement model assumed to underlie the TEOSQ by using confirmatory factor analysis. Subjects were 292 college students who were physical education major. Subjects were requested to fill out a Chinese version TEOSQ (Chi, in press) in the classroom setting. LISREL VII was used to analyze the data. The Results of the confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the measures of overall fit for the hypothetical two-factor structure of the TEOSQ were acceptable. The results indicated that the Chinese version TEOSQ is valid and can be provided to assess the individuals' task and ego orientation in sport. In addition, this paper also provides the methods and procedures for conducting the confirmatory factor analysis to test the construct validity of psychological inventories.
