The Role of Extracellular Matrix Metalloproteinase Inducer (EMMPRIN) in Periodontitis-A Literature Review

摘要


牙周病是一種感染性疾病,藉由發炎反應破壞了齒槽骨和結締組織等的牙周基質細胞的疾病。而基質金屬蛋白酶(matrix metalloproteinases, MMPs)在降解牙周組織扮演了重要角色。胞外基質金屬蛋白酶誘導因子(extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer, EMMPRIN)是一種類免疫蛋白的細胞表面醣蛋白,會藉由促進MMPs的表現和活化來改變膠原纖維溶解和生成的平衡。至今,越來越多研究指出EMMPRIN在調節MMPs參與牙周病中牙周組織的破壞,扮演不可或缺的角色。本文獻回顧透過介紹EMMPRIN與MMPs之間的關係,來闡述EMMPRIN於牙周病中所扮演的角色。

Periodontitis is an infectious disease that is characterized by periodontal tissue destruction. It is mediated by inflammation and involves the loss of alveolar bone and connective tissue. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play an important role in the degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN), an immunoglobulin-like cell surface glycoprotein, is thought to modify the collagenolytic balance in favor of the expression and activation of MMPs. Recently, new research has indicated that EMMPRIN seems to play a critical role in the regulation of the MMPs that participate in the destruction of the periodontal ECM during periodontitis. In this review article we introduced MMPs and EMMPRIN and evaluate the role of EMMPRIN in periodontitis.
