This study uses a textual reading of the Mainland China Television drama "My Native Land", to investigate Taiwan's military dependents' villages and the Taiwan Garrison Command (TGC), as reconstructed in the series. The series was the first filmed work that uses a Mainland mainstream viewpoint to narrate Taiwan veterans' home visiting. The officially-censored content is sufficient to robustly demonstrate how the Mainland imagines the culture of Taiwan. As a result, there is a specific academic interest in performing a textual reading of this series. This study shows that the "My Native Land" production unit intentionally expanded the role played by the TGC in the struggles of veterans as they attempted to return home and visit their relatives. As a result, returning home to visit relatives becomes a political tangle of conflict and gamesmanship. This study also finds that the "My Native Land" production unit intentionally appropriated a certain number of Taiwanese historical events, which were then altered and blended into the plot.
