環境服務學習案例初探-花蓮女中根與芽社團活動個案研究

The Exploration of Environmental Service Learning-A Case Study on the Root and Shoot Activity in Hualien Girls' Senior High School

摘要


本研究以花蓮女中根與芽服務學習活動為對象,進行個案研究,以探討環境服務學習為高中環境教育的效果及可行性。研究發現花蓮女中根與芽活動為全年級的活動,已經推動了四年,參與者必須進行關懷環境、社會弱勢、動物的服務各一次,以讓學生初步體驗服務學習為目的。社團帶領老師以低門檻、全面參與、社團傳承,讓學生自主決定他們的活動,創出成功的推動機制,贏得持續力及影響校園風氣。受訪學生分享根與芽活動使他們成長、增加他們的知識、增進人際關係、觀念轉換,及批判性思考,也培養他們的公民意識。此社團在校長、老師的支持,學校與社會的長久伙伴關係,學校環境教育的長久關切得以成長。服務學習過程中,學校與機構大多達到彼此互惠。根據服務學習四個階段,花女的根與芽活動有待改善之處,如:預備時間較短;反思多偏期末的紙筆報告,欠缺雙向互動;示範及慶賀時間也不足。建議更多老師投入,協助反思、慶祝;學校舉辦教師研習,以連接課程與根與芽活動,在更多課程發揮此教學策略的效益。

This research is a case study on the Root and Shoot Activity (R&S activity) in Hualien Girls' Senior High School to explore the effectiveness and feasibility of the Environmental Service Learning as an environmental education strategy in high schools. This R&S activity has run for four years. Participants, who mostly are in the first year of the high school, need to conduct environmental, animal, and community service once for each and have some service learning experience as the goal. The activity sets low entry level, student club style, and student decision making as promotion mechanism to attract as many as students involved. Because the mechanism works, the activity has been successfully conducted and influences campus culture. The interviewed students shared their learning, including personal growth, interpersonal development, understanding and applying knowledge, perception transformation, critical thinking and civic consciousness. The principal and other teachers’ support, good relation with NGOs and historical environmental concern provided firm bases for the activity. From theperspective of the service learning, the R&S activity in Hualien Girl School can be improved, due to short of preparation time, lack of the reflection activity and celebration, except some classes run by the school coordinator. It is necessary more teachers involved to help the reflection and celebration parts as well as link the R&S activity with academic study to apply the service learning strategy in secondary education broadly.
