Lai Ho was called "Matsu of Changhua" or "Father of Modern Taiwanese Literature". His novel fills with more realistic depiction of exploitation and oppression caused by inequality in the Japanese colonial period to reveal the plight of the people. Because he had been trained by the modern medical education, that enlightened him to criticize many wrong values in the traditional society. In his works, there were full description of the social vulnerable and oppressed people, showing his concern on the nonentity. Therefore, the paper intends to explore the humanitarian spirit in his works.
