This study aims at gaining an understanding of what motivates a college rugby player to participate in such events. The subjects of study are 274 players from leagues A and B players who took part in the 2006 annual College Rugby Championship. The source of study is a Scaled Questionnaire designed for this purpose. The results show that: 1. for participation motivation among college players, the highest scored factor is <||>curiosity and accomplishments<||>, with the next highest scores on <||>enjoyment of training<||>, while the lowest scores fell on the factor <||>approval and praise<||>. 2. Comparing background variables, it is found that difference of league and length of playing history both reach significant variations (p<.5). 3. Comparing background variables against the factors, it is found that there is significant variation for different leagues in <||>approval and praise<||>. There is also significant variation among players who reach the top level of excellence with the factor <||>approval and praise<||>.
