In Terms of Communicative Language Teaching Evaluate Speaking Materials Conducted in English Teaching in Primary Schools in Kaohsiung County

高雄縣兒童英語教材有關口語內容設計之英語教師意見調查

摘要


Taiwan has implemented primary school English teaching since 2001. At the initial stage of English education in primary school, one of the greatest concerns is to develop speaking ability. Therefore, this study firstly presents the teachers' perspective of speaking content in the current English materials. Secondly, the investigation also explores English speaking teaching in Communicative Language Teaching environment. The final aim is to evaluate English speaking materials by analyzing its activities and contents. The findings of the study will contribute to both elementary school students and English teachers. With regard to research methodologies used in the study, Likert-type questionnaires were adopted. Analyzing four editions of English materials used currently in Kaohsiung was contributed to understanding principles of CLT. The principal findings are that the speaking activities of four editions of children English teaching materials do not follow the principle of CLT, but only contain controlled practice. It is hoped that the findings will not only help textbook writers improve speaking contents but also help teachers know how to develop primary school students' speaking ability.

台灣在2001年正式實施國小英語教學。在國小英語教學草創時期主要的重點是著重在口說能力,因此,此研究第一個目標是審視教師對於現今英語教材中口說部份的意見與看法。第二個目標是探討溝通式教學環境下的口說教學。第三個目標是藉由口說教學活動及內容來評量英語教材。研究結果將對於國小學生及兒童英文老師都有所幫助。研究者採用李克特式問卷量表進行這項研究,另外,研究者也同時分析目前高雄地區教師所使用的四種不同版本的英語教材以利於瞭解溝通式教學法。本研究最主要的發現是這四種版本的英語教材並非根據溝通式教學法的原則來編寫教材活動,而是只有包含控制練習的部分。研究者希望這個研究發現不僅可以促使英語教材編寫者加強口說部分的內容,同時也讓國小英語老師知道如何去提昇學生的口說能力。
