伯恩斯坦《奇徹斯特詩篇》：音樂、宗教數字象徵與歌詞情境的多重互動

本文旨在研究伯恩斯坦（Leonard Bernstein, 1918-1990）的合唱作品《奇徹斯特詩篇》（Chichester Psalms, 1965），透過解讀作品中豐富的宗教數字象徵，及觀察伯恩斯坦如何以音樂體現歌詞情境，論述音樂、數字與文學在這部作品中如何緊密纏繞、並在猶太宗教的情懷中相互輝映。《奇徹斯特詩篇》創作於1965年，乃受座堂主任牧師赫西（the Very Reverend Walter Hussey）委託、使用於「南方教堂節慶」（Southern Cathedrals Festival）的作品。有趣的是，雖受英國聖公會的教堂委託，但伯恩斯坦卻在音樂中鑲嵌鮮明的猶太教思想，其透過戲劇化的音樂以鎔鑄無所不在的數字象徵及精心營造的歌詞情境，使綺麗的宗教色彩與伯恩斯坦靈活的創作技法融為一體。透過雙重視角檢視音樂中的多重連結，宗教、數字、文學與音樂之間的聯繫不再流於附會，而確實在樂曲的交織中印證彼此的存在意義。

This article aims to explore Chichester Psalms (1965) of Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990). By interpreting the rich religious number symbols and observing how Bernstein embodies the lyrics in this work, this article will discuss how music, number Symbols and literature are closely intertwined and reflected the thoughts of Judaism. Composed and debut in 1965, Chichester Psalms was a choral work commissioned by the Very Reverend Walter Hussey for ＂Southern Cathedrals Festival＂. Interestingly, although commissioned by the Church of England, Bernstein embedded clear Judaism in this work, reflecting in the ubiquitous religious number symbols and carefully created lyrical content. As a result, this work blends profound religious thoughts with Bernstein's flexible musical techniques. Via multiple inspections from the dual perspective, the connection between religion, numbers, literature and music is not conjecture, but it does have meaning in the interweaving of music.
