《國語解》用《左傳》研究

Ever since the Han dynasty, the usual practice of interpreting Guo yu國語 is by reference to the relevant parts of Zuo zhuan 左傳. The commentary notes on Guo yu by Zheng Zhong鄭眾, Jia Kui賈逵, Tang Gu唐固 and other commentators, although available in fragments, testify to this. The first part of this paper describes how these commetators made use of Zuo zhuan and analyses Wei Zhao's 韋昭 Commentary on Guo yu(國語解) from the following perspectives: the methods of quotation, the choices of materials, and the purposes of quotation. For the sake of comparison, the same perspectives are adopted to examine Wei's treatment of works including Chun qiu 春秋, Gongyang zhuan公羊傳, and Guliang zhuan穀梁傳.The second part of this paper interprets the results of the comparison in light of the historical development of learning at that time. The following two questions are also addressed: ＂what scholarly value does Wei Zhao's analysis of Zuo zhuan hold during the Han and Jin dynasties?＂ and ＂what distinguished scholarly features of the period are borne in Wei's book with regard to the development of commentary scholarship?＂
