Facing contemporary challenges of design education - a design studio experiment, Taiwan's landscape architecture bachelor program case study

設計教育在當代面臨的挑戰:以台灣建築景觀學士學程的實驗性設計課程為案例研究

摘要


Socio-economic shifts are today challenging design education. This is because the disciplinary autonomy is not established yet. In particular, the design studio is questioned, even if this is where the autonomy of design is developed. So, changes in the educative system are necessary if we do not want to risk losing key aspects of the design education. In light of this, the paper assesses the design studio educative format today, including aspects of developmental pathway of design education of the built environment, the state of the art of debate, the elaboration and assessment of an educative experiment at a Taiwan's landscape architecture bachelor program following the recommendations of the global disciplinary debate. Finally, the paper suggests that, in Taiwan, improvements in terms of 'integrative learning' can be achieved by restructuring the design studio organization. In contrast, design research is more challenging to support. Finally, the paper ponders these conclusion in relation to didactic directives and student intentionality, which greatly differ in Taiwan and other countries.

由於設計領域的研究準則未臻成熟,以致當今社會經濟的轉變更突顯出設計教育所面臨的挑戰,即便研究方法較完善的設計科系也必須被重新審視。為了不失去設計教育為社會帶來的助益,改變現今的教育體系變得至關重要。有鑑於此,本文研究並評估現有設計科系的教育策略,包括建築景觀與城市規劃領域的設計教學發展歷程、相關領域專家學者討論的當代議題,以及台灣景觀建築科系回應全球熱議課題所規劃的教育實驗。為避免設計領域的研究越發困難,本文建議透過重組台灣設計科系的組織架構,以優化整合性的學習系統,最終以教學指導方針和學生意向調查作為總結,呈現台灣設計教育領域異於國際之處。
