晶圓代工產業服務價值傳遞與服務創新之研究

摘要


摘要 半導體產業歷經了一甲子以上的發展,隨著時間的演進亦發生數次變革,其中尤以1980年代末期晶圓代工模式的興起影響最為重大。由於半導體晶圓的生產設備係有高資本投入之障礙,因此在專業晶圓代工廠出現之前,業界只能仰賴垂直整合之整合元件製造商(Integrated Device Manufacturer),縱然於1980年代初期有無晶圓廠IC設計公司之出現,但也只能受限於IDM廠之代工產能而難以成氣候。但在專業晶圓代工廠出現之後,半導體業界之垂直分工一觸即發,IC設計業者如雨後春筍般出現,而具備支援性質之第三方廠商,如EDA公司、IP供應商以及設計服務公司也隨著商業模式演進而出現並扮演舉足輕重之角色。 末端產品快速變化促使IC的設計越趨多樣化,追求規模經濟的渴望不斷帶動著晶圓生產的規模擴大,以更高的密度生產晶片與更低的成本的需求也促使製程節點不斷前進,因此本研究企圖運用全面且系統性的觀點,從服務科學的角度出發,並以專業晶圓代工廠為核心,歸納各類參與者究竟在商業模式發展的各個世代所扮演之角色,並探索晶圓代工模式的各個世代之價值傳遞模式與服務創新的軌跡。首先整理歸納晶圓代工模式之服務價值傳遞模式,並解構各角色間之互動流程。同時亦納入「服務科學、管理與工程」之諸多概念,藉此從管理構面、工程構面、服務價值鍊等等角度切入專業晶圓代工廠商「製造服務」之內涵。 本研究發現半導體晶圓代工模式隨著IC設計的複雜度與製程物理特性的困難度不斷提昇之下,產業的服務價值傳遞模式也隨之產生變化。根據製程的發展與代工思維的轉變可分為三個世代,第一世代具有高度純製造的特性,進入第二世代之後則開始轉換為製造服務,第三世代則更加強調晶圓代工廠之服務導向思維同時亦提高與第三方支援廠商之間的互動。本研究藉各項分析構面,進而探索與客戶之間的協同合作關係與服務創新脈絡,最後並進一步提出洞見與建議。

Abstract After having developed for more than sixty year, the semiconductor industry had faced several evolutions. The most important one was the beginning of foundry business model. Since the great entry barrier of semiconductor manufacturing, those IC design company without chip manufacturing fab (fabless) can’t afford huge fab building investiment and would only rely on intergrated device manufacturer to make IC chips for them before 1980s. However, the reliability of such relationship was quite limited by the usage of IDM’s capacity. The establishment of foundry model satisfied the urgent need of fabless and made semiconductor industry become more vertical disintegration. More and more fables and supportive third-party companies appeared. Since the increasing of IC design complexity and physical process difficulty, the value delivery mechanism of semiconductor industry also varies accordingly. In order to seek economic of scale in IC chip manufacturing, foundry production scale become larger and larger. The research adopts a systematic way and foundry’s view point to analysis the service value delivery mechanism in different time period. Also, it includes the interaction between different roles in this business model. We will discover the concepts of foundry’s manufacturing service by the aspects of management, engineering, service value chain and service science that generates from SSME method. This research divides the history of foundry business model into three generations. In the first generation, the business model was more like pure manufacturing. However, the concept of manufacturing service appears in second generation. After the past two generations, foundry now puts more emphasis on the idea of service-oriented method. At the same time, the dgree of collaboration and interaction between foundry and fables or foundry and third-party companies also increased. In this reaserch, we analysis four aspects of the manufacturing service which is provided by foundry. Also we try to explorer the collaboration relationship and service innovation track.
