誘導層列相/強誘電性液晶複合系之光電效應

摘要


HPPB以及E7都是向列型(nematic)液晶,以固定比例混合在一起時會誘導出層列相(smectic phase)。本實驗是在雙成份液晶(HPPB/E7= 45/55)中加入具有旋光層列C相(chiral smectic C phase)的強誘電性(ferroelectric)液晶CS1014,進行熱性質與光電現象的觀察。結果顯示此複合系具有雙安定性質且只有範圍寬廣的單一液晶相。而在另一複合系HPPB/E44/CS1014的實驗結果顯示薄元件中有隨溫度變色情形,厚元件中則有特殊chiral nematic phase。雙安定性質有利於記憶效應之應用,而隨溫度變色的特性也可用在展示欣賞方面。

An induced smectic phase was obtained by mixing two kinds of nematic liquid crystals with strong and weak end groups, respectively. This ISP was then mixed with one ferroelectric liquid crystal, and its thermal properties and electro-optic behaviors were observed. Results showed that the composite was bistable, and had only one liquid crystal phase. Another composite HPPB/E44/CS1014 changed colors with varying temperature in thin cell; while in thick cell, it displayed a special chiral nematic phase.The bistable property is available in memory effect, and colors change with temperature is also fun in art or display.
