The Status Attainment and Mobility of the Information Class Abstract The technological utopian contends that the information technology will bring prosperity and a society without classes will be achieved in the near future. Conventional constraints on a person’s social status attainment will disappear. However, the antiutopian argues that the class inequality still exists and the gap between the information rich and information poor is widened. This study aims at exploring the factors affect the status attainment and class mobility in the information age. Totally 137 students who graduated from information-related departments in colleges or graduate schools were either mailed or electronic surveyed. The questionnaire consists 3 parts: the personal SES status, information literacy, and the description of first and current job. The result shows that gender and professional skills are related to the status attainment of the first job. In addition, gender, continuing education and the first job will determine their current position. In general, male, who are willing to receive continuing education, and the higher position of first job show an upward career mobility. The result suggests that the information class still exits even the level of information education is controlled.
