With new technological and industry advances, the complexity of product structures increases to certain extend, it will accelerate potential failure factors happened. Biomimicry is the practice of making technological design copying natural processes. Life on earth began for a long time ago, the survival of organisms must have its survival rules. If its principles or structure can be applied to product design, the failure factors of products can be eliminated and the design can be improved. This research provides a new a methodology of innovative product design. This study revised the “Anticipatory Failure Determination” tool which is used in the TRIZ method and combines functional analysis and biomimicry concepts. By establisng keywords to search for biological cases to enable designers to find out suitable cases to apply biological princple into solve products’ potential failure. Moreover, this study integrates ecological network anaylsis and creates a new ecological food web matrix to evaluate the stability of the new product by calculating the maximum eigenvalue. The results show the capabilities of the proposed method and processes.
