台灣與大陸《哈利波特》系列譯本翻譯策略之比較

論文摘要 本研究旨在觀察台陸兩版哈利波特譯本第一至四冊的翻譯策略,並與相關翻譯理論交互印證,以做為未來文學作品翻譯之參考,共分成五章討論。第一章簡介《哈利波特》系列及原文版、台版、陸版的出版資料。第二章為文獻回顧,說明觀察台陸兩版譯本策略觀察的切入點,包括兩版在道地化與異類化兩種翻譯手法之間所做的選擇,以及兩版本的翻譯策略是否能夠驗證當今有關童書翻譯之翻譯理論。第三章分析兩版翻譯書中人、動物、地名的策略,第四章分析兩版其他各類詞彙之譯名,第五章分析兩版如何處理原文的語言趣味。第六章為總結,歸納出台版傾向採用道地化翻譯手法,盡可能傳達原文的「整體效果」,對突破語際障礙顯現較積極的態度,其破格創作使譯名簡短易記並饒富趣味,而讀者從台版的譯文中所能感受的雙關趣味亦較多,而陸版則是傾向採用異類化翻譯手法,並無一貫策略,整體效果較台版平淡許多。

This study observes the varying strategies used in the Taiwan and Mainland Chinese translations of the first four books of the Harry Potter series. The strategies are discussed drawing upon relevant aspects of translation theory to provide a reference for future translation of literary works. Chapter 1 gives a brief introduction of the Harry Potter series novels and a summary of stories in the first four books, as well as publication information regarding English and Chinese editions (including mainland and Taiwan) of the series. Chapter 2 reviews the theoretical background of the study, and states the perspectives underlying the discussions of the two Chinese editions, including choices between domesticating and foreignizing translation approaches and whether the strategies used echo theories pertaining to translation of children’s literature. Chapter 3 describes strategies in the translation of proper names, Chapter 4 looks at the translation of other nominal terminology in the books, and Chapter 5 discusses the rendering of metalinguistic elements. Chapter 6 summarizes findings of the study and concludes that Taiwan and Mainland translators show different strategy preferences, namely the Taiwan edition prefers domesticating whereas mainland Chinese translators use foreignizing approaches more freely. Greater efforts are used in the Taiwan edition to reproduce effects of the original text and overcome obstacles arising from differences between source and target languages. The Taiwan translation’s use of “artistic license” and creativity produce shorter and more interesting translations of names and terms, making them easy to remember, and convey metalinguistic elements more effectively than the Mainland edition, which can be somewhat inconsistent in its adoption of translation strategy and communicates noticeably fewer connotations and effects of the original text.
