A Case of Classical Remedy for Peripheral Vertigo

Vertigo is a common chief complaint. The patient often experiences as a sensation of spinning(either the room spinning or the person spinning) and he is unable to maintain balance and posture. Furthermore, it also affects work, driving a car or daily living. Although most of the sudden onset of vertigo patients will be gradually relieved in two weeks, about a small number of patients will develop chronically. Peripheral vertigo is the most important type of dizziness, accounting for about 40% and usually can be treated with the modern western medicine. However, there are still a certain percentage of patients who cannot get a better improvement. This case report presents patient with frequent episodes of paroxysmal dizziness who had three serious experiences of falling down unconsciously. After receiving the traditional Chinese medicine one month, the symptom improved to not relapse again by following one month. Compared with other therapies, Chinese medicine has the advantage of rapid and sustained effect. As a doctor in the face of such clinical symptoms, this case is extremely worthy for us to appreciate.
