Chondrosarcoma, a malignancy arising from cartilage cells, commonly occurs in the pelvis and long bones of extremities but rarely in the head and neck. The degree of differentiation, the anatomical site and the respectability of the tumor are the important factors in determining the prognosis. The main treatment for chondrosarcoma of the head and neck is radical surgical resection, possibly combined with radiotherapy or chemotherapy as the adjuvant. This 41 year-old female patient, a case of high-grade chondrosarcoma of maxillaa, received bilateral maxillectomy and postoperative radiotherapy. The tumor recurred one month later, leading to the death of the patient from intracranial invasion ten months after operation.
