Neurilemmoma is a benign, relatively slow growing tumor composed of neuroectodermal derivative of Schwann cells in the peripheral nerves. It may arise at any age and there is no sex predilection. It normally presents as a solitary, asymptomatic, and well-capsulated firm mass. The tumor is mostly found on the surface of flexor area of the limbs and the soft tissue of the head and neck region. Central lesion is relatively rare. Occasionally, intraosseous neurilemmoma of the jaw has been reported, chiefly the mandible, apparently arising from the inferior alveolar nerve. Here we present a 55-year-old female with a central radiolucent lesion in the left mandibular body. Neurilemmoma was diagnosed after tumor excision and histopathologic examination. Central neurilemmoma of the jaw is rare. Only one case (this case) of neurilemmoma of jawbone was found among the 55 cases of neurilemmoma in this hospital from 1986 to 2007.
