Using the Extended Model of Theory of Planned Behavior to Explore the Influencing Factors of College Students' Sports Behavioral Intentions-Adding Smartphone Addiction Factors

The purpose of this research is to use the model of Theory of Planned Behavior to explore the influencing factors of college students' (including masters and PhD students) sports behavior intentions. The study developed the extended model of Theory of Planned Behavior that is added the smartphone addiction factor, to capture the major influencing factors of college students' sports behavior intentions. Method: By convenience sampling and taking university students who are from six different universities in Taichung City as subjects. A total of 515 questionnaires were returned and 464 valid questionnaires were left with useful response rate was 90%. Material: Based on Ajzen (2007) and Cheng et al. (2019), developed a structured Sport TPB scale, and then combined with Smartphone Addiction (SAS-SV) scale (Kwon et al., 2013) for investigation. Results: this study mainly found that attitude and perceived behavioral control positively and significantly affect the behavioral intention of doing sports. While smartphone addiction has a negative relationship with the behavioral intention of doing sports, but not significant. Conclusion: by capturing the major influencing factors of college students' intention of sports behavior, this research proposed suggestions to enhance the influence power of attitude and perceived behavioral control, and then to promote the intention to do sports behavior. Finally, according literature evidences, it is hoped that college students' smartphone addiction can be reduced.
