”New Period” is usually called the rejuvenation of Chinese Mainland literature and art in the 20th century. In this period, the relationship between Chinese and foreign drama has gone through a historical process which transferred from pure isolation during the ”Cultural Revolution” at first to a total open situation to the outside world. Therefore, there has been a leading current in drama ideas and creation. This current mainly concentrates on the dispute between drama ideas, the confluence of Problem Play and ”unfreezing” trends, the deepening of realism, the quest of Modernism, the rise of new acting systems and the innovation of ”Impressionistic Play”.
