This is a review of the design theory of Victor Papanek, the teacher of industrial designers in the world. Re-reading Papanek's ”Design for the Real World,” one of the most influential books in the field of industrial design, the author introduces the structure and formation of Papanek's design theory. Four dimensions are suggested to approach to Papanek's theory: (1) modernism, (2) order, (3) populism, and (4) green movement. The problems appear in his theory can be depicted by the three profiles: (1)Papanek as commodity, (2) Papanek in Utopia, and (3) Papanek in theory dilemma.
