A CASE STUDY ON MESOSCALE CONVECTION SYSTEM RELATED TO AVIATION SAFETY

摘要

Through satellite images and observation data analysis, we noticed lightning was companied with the mesoscale system moving on April 13, 2016, which highly likely leads to flight safety hazards. With the help of the WRF model 3.7 version simulation, the meteorological impact factors of three successive mesoscale convective systems on flight safety were investigated. Based on the results of a 24-hour simulation by the WRF model, we observed a strong low-level wind shear with relatively high humidity field which brought up the convection systems near the Fujian coast of China. It is well known that the atmospheric vertical motion forms a threat to flight safety and is not easily observed. The atmospheric vertical motion was clearly located with the help of this model simulation. These types of mesoscale weather systems with bow echoes as well as low-level winds often cause threat to aviation safety.
