Communication research used to study the news production and journalist’s individual behavior in a macro context, which they think better explain the production processes. Recently, there is a turn to shift the focus from the macro context to the agent in it and their practices. This study analyzes the journalistic field in Taiwan by Bourdieu's Field theory, emphasizing on the social space as well as the agent in it. Using the life history and narrative research approaches, the thesis seeks to examine how the journalists reconcile their professional ideology with the media’s requirement, and find out how they struggle for autonomy by exploiting their social capital and professional knowledge. This thesis is a case study of the five journalists in China Times, who work in the Center for Investigative Reporting. According the study, nowadays the journalists should change their focus from emancipatory politics to life politics. Moreover, from the case study of Center for Investigative Reporting, journalists who work as a team are able to organize resources in a more efficient way and reduce the risk when interact with the organization, which is a formal and positive way to pursue professionalism and autonomy.
