This review article points out the importance of cultivation about spirituality for medical students in their undergraduate education. The authors tried to formulate a solid foundation for curriculum of spiritual education through reviewing and analyzing the core meaning of spirituality, spiritual need, and spiritual care. It is also the purpose of this article to provide a whole picture of current spiritual education at our country and around the world. The authors suggest to define ”spirituality” as ”dimension of a person that is concerned with ultimate ends and values”. The ”spiritual stress” can be thus defined as ”disruption in the life principles that pervades a person's entire being and that integrate and transcend one's biological and psychological nature”. The religious aspects of spirituality can be practiced in both western and eastern way. It is paramount important that to incorporate spiritual education into medical students' curriculum.
