The main purpose of this study is to develop a Safety Performance Scale (SPS). The author applied survey research to attain the purpose. This method consisted of reviewing the literature, amending questionnaire, mailing survey, and analyzing the data. The confirmatory factor analysis of the SPS resulted in six factors such as safety training, safety organization and management, safety measures, safety equipment, accident statistics, and accident investigation. And this result supported the model of Wu (2001). Those factors explained 63.53% of the total variance. Moreover, the internal consistency of the total scale reached a Cronbach α value of 0.9730. According to the results of this study, it is concluded that the scale is valid and reliable, and then this scale can be used to measure the safety performance in labs etc. within universities and colleges in Taiwan.
