本文研究田間茄子（Solanum melongena L.）產量（y）與南方根瘤線蟲（Meloidogyne incognita）根瘤數量（x）之關係。茄子生育期感染根瘤的數量和茄子產量呈現負相關（r = -0.72），其迴歸方程式為y = 721.9-36.1x，決定係數（r^2）為0.52。茄子根部感染南方根瘤線蟲對根部細胞的影響，則是增大及增多，進而形成巨大細胞群。位於根部外層的卵塊（egg masses）乃南方根瘤線蟲繁殖的證據，於感染根部組織切片中，可清晰見到南方根瘤線蟲的三至四齡幼蟲與成蟲。
