On the Military Memories in the Poems of Luo Zhuoying and Li Zefen

摘要

戰爭是古今中外重要的文學主題，當面臨危急存亡的威脅時，如何在個體生命與國族義務、家庭倫理、愛情理想、道德操守之間作出選擇，是人類永恆的迷思。而民國乃新舊文化交替之世，影響所及，儒將輩出。國軍將領羅卓英（1896—1961）與李則芬（1909—2004）原籍皆為廣東客家，都在北伐前夕加入國軍，各自皆經歷了北伐、剿共、抗戰，更曾先後遠征中南半島，晚年則定居臺灣，軍旅生涯軌跡頗為接近。而兩人遷臺前的詩作，多涉於軍旅生活。本文先分別考察羅卓英和李則芬詩作中軍旅記憶的軌跡，進而從這些作品來探析個體記憶中的不和諧音，如何與黨國營構之集體記憶產生互動與張力。

War is an important theme in world literature. Threatening our survival, it puts us in a position where the choice of national obligations, family ethics, ideal of love and moral integrity becomes an eternal dilemma. The early years of Republican China (1912-1949) were caught in a period of transition from the old to the new, from which s emerged a number of army writers. Luo Zhuoying (1896-1961) and Li Zefen (1909-2004) were exemplary among them. Both were Guangdong Hakkas, and joined the Nationalist Army on the eve of the Northern Expedition in 1927, in which they took part. They then proceeded to participate in the Encirclement Campaigns, the Sino-Japanese War and the expeditions to Indochina, eventually settling down in Taiwan. Most of their poems before they relocated to Taiwan touch upon lives in the army. This article first examines the traces of military memories in their poems, and then delves into the notes of discord in their private memories, exploring the interactions as well as the tension between them and the collective memories forged by the party and the state.
