本論文旨在研究與比較《白鯨記》(Moby Dick)兩個中譯本。《白鯨記》是美國文學的經典著作,由赫爾曼‧梅爾維爾於1851年著作完成,對於世界文學發展有重要的影響。筆者藉由比較兩種不同的中譯本,不僅可以了解翻譯的差異,亦可以了解《白鯨記》這部偉大小說的中心思想。本論文共分五章,第一章說明筆者的研究動機與目的與研究方法。第二章介紹《白鯨記》作者及其內容,接著是海洋小說的文獻探討。在第三、四章中,筆者透過許多翻譯例句,從實務來探討譯者應如何運用歸化與異化理論來完成形象化譯文、形音義兼顧的譯文以及修辭妥善的譯文。另外,也由嚴復的信、達、雅之說來研究譯文的精確原則、譯文暢達以及專有詞彙。第五章是結論,指出本研究對《白鯨記》中譯本的重要發現以及啟示。透過兩本中譯本的比較,希望本論文可以對文學翻譯以及海洋小說有興趣的學者有所貢獻。
The aim of the thesis is to research and compare the differences between two Chinese translations of Moby Dick.Moby Dick, written by Herman Melville in 1851. This classic plays an important role in the development of literature in the world. In this research, the author not only compares the two Chinese translations but explores the central idea of Moby Dick. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with the motive, the purpose, and the methodology. The second chapter is the introduction to the author and contents of Moby Dick. The third and fourth chapters search through examples of translation analysis what would be the best skills a translator must obtain in order to do his or her job ideally from the view points of domestication and foreignization.In addition, the thesis also research the accuracy of translation and proper names from the perspectives of fidelity, fluency, eleganceand others proposed by Yen Fu. The last chapter provides the author’s suggestions and findings of Moby Dick. The author hopes this thesis will be helpful for those who are interested in the literary translation,especially novels.
