摘要

自一九九六年三月在曼谷所舉辦的第一屆亞歐會議 (Asia Europe Meeting, ASEM)以來，已在此架構之下陸續舉行了多次部長級會議以及專家會議，同時還在新加坡成立的亞歐基金會 (Asia Furope Foundation, ASEF)，以及改善了亞歐大陸橋的營運狀況，對於亞歐關係的發展，助益良多，使亞歐關係的發展邁入了新紀元。本文將詳述第一屆亞歐會議以來的發展，而且在今(一九九八)年四月第二屆亞歐會議在倫敦加開之前，對此會議的重要性予以評估。

Since the first Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) was held in Bangkok in March 1996, several ministerial and expert meetings have followed suit. Additionally, through the founding of the Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF) and improvements in the condition of the Eurasian Land-Bridge, Eurasian relations have entered a new epoch. This article will discuss and evaluate the developments since the first Europe Asia Meeting in anticipation of the second Europe Asia Meeting, which will be held in London in April 1998.
