This article points out the inadequacy of the sole focus of Taiwan's K-9 computer education on teaching application software. Various benefits that can be provided by programming instruction to K-9 students are discussed through extensive literature survey. Five programming tools-Alice, Drape, Lego Mindstorms, MSWLogo, and Stagecast Creator-are introduced, as well as the research findings related to teaching of these tools at pre-college levels, to demonstrate the feasibility of teaching programming at K-9 schools.
