This paper provides exploratory evidence for the relationships between hotel associations' organizational behavior and their performed effectiveness. It is proposed that institutions with high performance, as evaluated by their own members, would share common organizational characteristics in order to fulfill their respective objectives. The data were collected from 56 members of hotel associations. The results indicated that the associations that were assessed by their members as effective, i.e., satisfactory, did show certain shared patterns in organizational behavior. In addition, an analysis of qualitative data further revealed that members also perceived five problems: unsound organizational structure, patronized employment, inadequate legal protection of members, over-varied membership, and insufficient funding, as hurdles to associations' effectiveness. This study calls for an urgent need for further research with larger sample and other research methods to look into the organizational behavior in hotel associations so that appropriate actions can be taken to bring each association's functions into full play. As a result, the whole hospitality industry can benefit from it.
