建築形式在家具設計上的關連性運用

Relative Application of Architecture form to Furniture Design

摘要


本研究主要在探討塑型方法應用在新產品、新作品的設計上,可以保存的原有造形風格,或將此風格用到不同類別的產品及作品上,創造風格的延續與再生的方法。研究是根據William Latham於1986年提出之造形合成術(Form Synth)之方法來分析後現代主義著名的美國建築師Michael Graves的造形風格、造形特徵與元素,進而建構出Michael Graves的塑型方法。經過作品的步驟驗證與形態回溯步驟,利用所建構的塑型步驟來進行Michael Graves建築造形的家具設計新作品創作,以達到產品風格再現的目的。 造形合成術(Form Synth)不僅是一種塑型方法,也是一個專供雕刻家使用的3D互動式的電腦輔助設計系統。使用者以幾何形的基本形,例如:圓柱體、立方體、圓錐體及球狀體經過一系列的凸出尖嘴(beak)、挖空(Scoop)、鼓凸(Bulge)、伸展(Stretch)、切去(Slice)、加上(Add)及減去(Subtract)等的操作,來獲得想創造的形體。藝術家先選擇一個幾何形體,接者選一個操作方式以改變其外形,再評估此一新形體,再如此反覆直到他滿意這個複雜的造形為止。 本研究形態建構規則共分七個步驟來進行新作品的創作,由於Michael Graves的建築外觀形態建構相當複雜,形態建構是以單體建築為例方便說明,經過擬人化三分法分割、黏貼、變形、挖孔等步驟,再加上建築外觀材料質感表現及慣用色彩的使用,就完成了單體建築的形態建構。

This research explored applying old molding method to new works and designs, which not only can retain the original style, but also enable the continuation and regeneration of the old style in new products. Using the ”Form Synthesis” technique developed by William Latham in 1986, we analyzed the style, features and elements of the works of a famous post-modernism American architect Michael Graves. Through tracing and verifying the steps involved in his works, we reconstructed his molding method, which was then applied to new furniture design in his ”Architecture form”, thus achieving the purpose of reviving his creative style. ”Form Synthesis” is not only a molding method, but also a 3D interactive computer-aided design system for sculptors. Users can first choose a basic geometric form such as cylinder, cube, cone or sphere, then carry out a series of operations such as beak, scoop, bulge, stretch, slice, add and subtract to obtain the desired form. Through iterative re-shaping operations and evaluation, the first chosen geometric shape can be molded into the final form to the designer's satisfaction. When creating a new design, seven steps are involved in the form generation. In view of the complicated design of Michael Graves's architecture works, a mono-architecture was first selected first for easy illustration of the process. Through the steps of dividing, pasting, transforming and scooping of the personalized trisection, and with materials and colors applied to the exterior of the architecture, the form generation process of a mono-architecture is completed.
