柳金木與臺灣軟式網球運動(1910-1946)

摘要

本文採以歷史研究法的方式，分析和考察日治時期的臺灣軟式網球運動的發展，並以當時網球界中，締造卓然成績之臺灣選手柳金木做為主軸，共同呈現臺灣軟式網球運動的文化面貌與形成軌跡。
研究中得知，柳金木球技精湛，轉戰各地成績輝煌，曾獲得「全島軟式庭球選手權大會」四次的單打冠軍，以及五次的雙打冠軍，另外，他更揚威東瀛，總共八度入選為臺灣代表隊，遠渡日本參加明治神宮體育大會。對於臺灣的軟式網球運動發展來說，柳金木斐然的競技成績，其實是突顯出臺灣人受到日本明治維新之後帶入西方的體育運動影響，在接觸和學習近代化運動之後，進而至運動場中與日人競技，在殖民者把持的年代當中，臺灣人改變和逆轉劣弱身體的氛圍中積極參與的心理轉折，正可輝映柳金木的運動成就。當然，柳金木建構了一部份屬於臺灣人的運動強項，也書寫了臺灣人在軟式網球場上的故事，我們期望將柳金木的運動表現、他的網球傳奇繼續傳述下去，以瞭解軟式網球在臺灣社會當中所扮演的角色和定位，並提供現在及未來生活在臺灣這片土地上的民眾，能瞭解己身歷史文化淵源。

This paper employs the historical method of research to analyze and examines the development of the sport of lawn tennis in Taiwan during the period of Japanese rule, and takes the Taiwanese player, Liu Chin-mu who achieved a brilliant record in the tennis circles of that time, as an axis for presenting both the cultural aspect and the formative trajectory of Taiwan’s sport of lawn tennis.
According to the information derived from the study, Liu Chin-mu was supremely skilled at lawn tennis and achieved a brilliant record in winning various competitions: he won four singles championships and winning various championships at an ”islandwide lawn tennis player selection tournament.” In additions, he even came off with flying colors in Japan; for eight times in all, he made the team to represent Taiwan at the Meiji imperial court athletic meets held in Japan. In terms of the development of the sport of lawn tennis in Taiwan, Liu Chinmu's brilliant record at these contests brings into prominence the influence on the Taiwanese of the western physical education and sports introduced by Japan after the Meiji Restoration; they came into contact with modern sports, learned them and then competed with the Japanese in the same arena. In those years of the period of Japanese rule when the colonialists dominated the sports scene, the psychological transition of the Taiwanese from languishing in an atmosphere of physical weakness to actively participating in sports bore shining testimony to Liu Chin-mu built part of a strong suit-a sport event that belongs to the Taiwanese, and wrote the story of the Taiwanese in lawn tennis. Nowadays, at a time when we expect to pass on this enlightening story, this legend in tennis, Liu Chin-mu is none other than the best role model.
