The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of three senior counselors who underwent their personal sandplay processes. Three female counselors participated in this qualitative study in which semi-structured interviews were conducted. The interview data collected was processed with the phenomenology method. The data was first analyzed and then divided into three different categories: the reasons for their initial involvement in sandplay therapy; their personal process experiences; and the changes & transformation. The findings were then written in accordance to the three parts. The data suggested that the participants began their personal sandplay processes in order to meet the need for self-healing and the requirements of becoming a qualified sandplay therapist. The time of each personal sandplay process lasted approximately 2 to 4.5 years, during which they experienced about 32 to 57 sessions and respectively created 24 to 38 sandplay scenes. Each participant had her own unique experience with sandplay therapy, which consists of the alternation of talk therapy and the making of sand pictures during the process. The participants all preferred dry sand to wet sand and feared snakes and spiders. However, after more sessions, they could overcome their inner fears and put objects that they disliked into the trays. In brief, they encountered and resolved their own issues during the sandplay process, and sandplay therapy brought growth and transformation to them. Further discussion of the results and findings were presented in the final chapters, and suggestions for future research on the practical use of sandplay therapy in counseling and healing were also made.
