Listening is one of the earliest developed ability of human beings. It is the basis for understanding sound and learning music. Perception of sound play an important part in the process of children's cognitive growth. The training of aural perception does not only enhance one's ability in music appreciation, it is also critical in music learning. This article discusses ways in which teachers can help children to develop aural perception, as well as to listen carefully and correctly. Consequently, children will better understand and recognize sound. From the viewpoint of music education, the importance and effects of aural perception in children's cognitive growth and creativity will also be discussed.
