Short Communication: Finding of Stephanurus Dentatus in Pigs in Taiwan

簡訊:台灣家豬之腎圓蟲

摘要

Of the 35 pigs (average weight 29.5 kg) bought from the Taitung Pig Farm for studies on taeniasis, four pigs (11 %) were found to be infected with S. dentatus by gross examination of the viscera. A total of 65 worms was collected. The distribution of the worms was highest in the diaphragm (44.6%), followed by the kidneys (30.8%), liver (12.3%), abdominal muscles (4.6%), and lungs (3.1%). Sternothyroid muscle, quadratus lumbrorum muscle, and spinalis thoralis muscle had the lower distribution of 2.0%. Female worms (34 X 1.4 mm) were larger than the male ones (31 X 1.2 mm). The fresh worms were light pink in color and have straits on the body surface. There was a lateral line on each of two sides. Male bursa was small, short, and with insignificant lobes. The two spicules with spicule sheath and gubernaculum were unequal and parallel. The caudal part of the female worm was conical and with a caudal bubble. Eggs (105 X 68 μm) were ovoid, thin-shelled, transparent, and in the 20-30-cell stage. The eggs were passed with the urine.
