The current study will focus on ”Diaspora and Genre: Fables in the European/Jewish culture”, using two main Yiddish fables in the 16th and 17th century as the case: the ”Book of the Fox” (Buch der Fuchsfabeln) by a famous Jewish folk writer Jakob Koppelmann (1555-1598) and the German fable, the ”Kuhbuch” by the folk writer Abraham ben Mattitja. By analyzing the styles and structures of writing in the Jewish fables, the study intends to explore the following issues: 1. tracing the traditions and development of fables, 2. analyzing the process of writing, and 3. functions in the social interaction.
