The purpose of this study was to explore the current status and differences of the recreational sports participation, positive emotion and subjective well-being of the mature-age residents due to different background variables. It further explored the relationship between the recreational sports participation, positive emotion and subjective well-being of the mature-age residents. The mature-age residents (at the age of 45- 65) of Chiayi City were treated as the subjects for the questionnaire survey. A total of 540 questionnaires were distributed, and 519 valid samples were retrieved, with a valid return rate of 92.7%. The results are as follows: 1) the gender, age, and marital status background variables have not reached the significantly different level in the recreational sports participation. The education level has significantly different in the recreational sports participation. 2) The marital status variables has not reached the significantly different level in the positive emotion cognition. The gender, age, and education level have significantly different in the positive emotion cognition. 3) The marital status variables has not reached the significantly different level in the subjective well-being cognition. The gender, age, and education level have significantly different in the subjective well-being cognition. 4) the residents' positive emotion would be higher in the case of the higher recreational sports participation by the mature-age residents of Chiayi County. The residents' subjective well-being would be higher in the case of the higher recreational sports participation by the residents. The residents' subjective well-being would be higher in the case of the higher residents' positive emotion. Since the indirect influence of the residents' recreational sports participation on the subjective well-being after being through the positive emotion was significant indirect effect, the positive emotion has mediating effect in the model.
