More than thirty years ago something happened between Lin Yutang and the author of this article that resulted in a genuine teacher-student relationship kept unknown to the world up to this day. The present article tells the story of how this came about, adding to the biographical data of Lin Yutang, which is by no means complete and definitive. It also urges our government, especially our Ministry of Education, to take measures aimed at producing men of Lin Yutang.s caliber, the larger in number the better, if the internationalization work we are doing is to produce more impressive and more inspiring results.
